No More Koni's... what's next?

Post by R/TErnie » Sat May 21, 2011 1:42 pm

Since Koni made the only decent shock for a neon...and now its discontinued... what are people doing in lieu?

I called True Choice and they can still rebuild the old koni's, so I guess the best solution would be to have a used set sent in to be rebuilt and shortened.

The BC coilover & Ksport crap have quite possibly the worse dampers ever. They do nothing better than hold springs.

Does any one else have any decent ideas?

There are still some new ones floating around in some shops, but everyone goes to full coilovers like BC coilovers or K-sport coilovers.

I know summit has a few front ones, but I don't know where the rear ones are. You'll have to look around. I was going to go on a search myself to look for a full set brand new, but it's easier to go coilovers.

The KW & ST brand coilovers look promising. I know Robi-spec builds a lot of v3 KW's for Evos...I'd be curious if he could rebuild the neon shocks...or maybe even revalve to better internals.

Who knows. Worth asking him. Koni charges an arm and a leg for rebuild. I asked them because I was interested in getting a set of blown konis. Too much money, but they are the best. Some people say the konis are millions times better than the BCs

I can still get the fronts but they are a wee bit pricey.. Part number Koni - 8741 1327SP2.

Trying to see what I can do about the rears.

I know the part number is Koni - 8741 1408Sport.. I don't have them listed on my site but they are on Koni's site.

Don't pay any attention to pricing on my site. I'll cut you guys a really good deal if you want 'em.

Well, I have them listed for 277 I think (a piece) but I have a call into Koni to see if I can do better than that, and to make sure they are still available... I don't want to throw out a price and then not be able to get 'em..

Hey Twisted Noodle, if you can get a full set of the 4 for under 1000 bucks I may be interested. I need to find a company that can re-make the Mopar XX-Hi rates

Well, I can get the fronts for about 260 a piece + shipping. So far the rears are indeed discontinued. But I have a guy searching around "the closet" to see if there are any kicking around.

I did find this on Neons.org. Do you have a part number by chance?

What about a spring that is comparable to the "high rates"? Not that I know of any. I am actually not too familiar with the springs but I'm doing some digging.

There was a company that was re-making them. I just saw a set of them for sale not too long ago. I will probably contact eibach or similar company to see. I want handling improvements with a little lowering without slamming the car
