I Need Help With My Power Steering Pulley

I wanted to know if there is a bolt going threw
the middle of this pulley, because mines doesn't have one,
and its making a loud knocking noise. :?:

There is no idler pulley on the PS belt. The belt goes straight from the crank pulley to the PS pump pulley.

The power steering pulley NOT held on by a bolt. The pulley is attached with friction: its called an "interference fit". The hole in the pulley is just a few 0.001" smaller than the shaft outside diameter.

You probably see threads inside the pump shaft. Those were put there for the pulley installation. If you buy a new pump it might come with a bolt, nut and washer. You position the pulley over the end of the shaft, then screw in the bolt . The bolt needs to have the nut and washer already on it, with the washer between the nut and pulley hub. After the bolt is screwed in, you hold the bolt head steady and then use a wrench to screw the nut down towards the pump body. The nut/washer will literally force the pulley onto the shaft as it's screwed down.

So basically, after you use this screw in type bolt to install the pulley, do you leave this bolt in or take it back off?

Take it out and put it in the bottom of your tool box so you can use it again in 5 years after that pump goes bad.

Can U purchase this bolt type tool, instead of the whole pulley kit? Im thinking maybe I can just use it to tighten my loose pulley.

I found a bolt with the same size nut and washer in my "bolt bin" (old coffee can). No need to buy the pulley to get the bolt/nut/washer. I can find out what thread size it is tomorrow.

Use a 3/8" X 16 bolt. Make sure its long enough to thread into the shaft and extend thru the pulley hub.

No. You thread the nut and then place the washer next to the nut. Insert the bolt/nut/washer thru the hole in the hub of the pulley. Then thread the bolt into the shaft. Hold the bolt with a wrench and then "screw" the nut down with another wrench. The washer should be between the nut and hub. As you screw the nut down towards the shaft it will "press" (force) the pulley onto the shaft. When the pulley is on the whole way then back out the bolt/nut/washer and you are done.

Well Thought I'd Update This Post!!!

I Used this tool to tighten the pulley, it was a no go, basically the pulley would not tighten any more than it already is, so i might need to replace whole unit that holds that pulley, what you think?

My P/S pulley squeaks and chirps like a a little bird. the pulley seems a tad bit loose but I have not found a way to tighten it, must have to just replace the whole pump?
