zoom clutch = crap???

Post by neonjeffie » Sat Oct 18, 2008 11:08 pm

ive had 2 zoom clutches and aluminum flywheels in my neon. the stage 2 four paddle kevlar clutches. over $600 in each. since day one with the new clutches it has shuddered when i take off. hard enough it makes the dashpad jump and the windshield wipers come on. zoom tech. line said to replace my clutch cable. thats all the help they gave me. didnt think that was the problem, replaced it anyways.... still the same. drove first clutch until it was close to worn out. never got better. drove second clutch until last nite when it wore out that the car wouldnt move. has anyone had bad luck with these or what the hell is going on?? im not happy at all with their customer service. they told me to keep driving the first one that it would "go away". hahaha no someone help!!!

first one lasted maybe 3000 mi. on a N/A engine. second one lasted longer only cuz i drove it into the ground before i pulled it apart. i heard the more pucks the better the engagement. i thought they would stand behind their product tho you know??

I've heard mixed reviews on zoom clutches. On an N/A car, I'd just run a PT cruiser clutch. I'm running a spec stage 2 clutch since it was cheap when I bought it. I don't like it, and I'm actually smelling it when I drive it hard.

The issue with hard clutches in a neon is the clutch cable cant pull it appart the whole way. You need to make a bracket to support the cable that should help.
