Automatic Trans Leaking......Help??
Automatic Trans Leaking......Help??
I have a 97 SOHC with a 3 spd auto trans, and It has started to leak again. Before it was not that big of a leak but now today when I checked it, it was bone dry. Is there any places I should look (common spots on a neon) to find and fix my leaks? I don't want to spend $600 on a MTX swap just yet. Most likely after christmas. Thanks in advance.

Trans pan is a good place to start looking. Don't know if its common on neons or not, but its a good starting point.
If its coming from the bell housing its probably the front seal.
If it isn't a severe leak and you are planning a swap anyways. Keep a qt of fluid in the car and check it every week, more if you drive a lot. As long as there is fluid in the trans you shouldn't have too big of a problem. It will just be an annoyance for a while.

My trans is ''sweating'' a bit.Fraz wrote:I have a 97 SOHC with a 3 spd auto trans, and It has started to leak again. Ill post a pic of this.
It is only a bit moisture under the trans. trans oil that is.
But it does not drop on the street, so there is actually nothing to worry about.
Somebody of the Dutch Neon forum has checked it out for me, and it probably is a gasket leaking a little bit.
Love Redline Shifting......
pan, diff cover and axle seals are the most common leaks i've seen on autos.
