This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons? just anything that is generally "engine" specific.

98 Plymouth Neon engine Rebuild

Post by MishlerDennis » Wed Jun 07, 2017 12:38 pm

I found a 98 Neon nearby for $100 so I went out and checked it out.
They told me the head gasket was bad but other than that it was all good..
Ive worked on cars for years so with that being said I started it up and heard rod knock from hell so I shut it down.
I bought it and took it home for teardown and inspection of the damage.
It was bad, really bad.
I found two spun rod bearings, a completely eaten bearing and one good bearing.
I also found the piston rings for all four cylinders were shot and that the head gasket was blown at the oil ports to the point that oil freely flowed down the back of the block.
I ordered a master rebuild kit and started the rebuild.
Today is the day the head bolts come in and its all done but adding oil and starting the break in process..
Will post every step I went through.
