2.4 motor swap and turbo build on a 96 coupe

Post by 08kgraves » Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:23 am

ok so i dont have the funds right now but i figured i would start this thread right now and you guys can give me tips and tricks and make recomendations so i know what i gotta do when i am ready. now i was originally in a debate of doing a v8 or a srt-4. well i dont feel like doing all the work a v8 would involve and i dont want to spend the initial cost that a srt-4 swap included and the amount of stuff i would also still need to buy.

here is a parts list i found from this link on here

http://forum.1gn.org/viewtopic.php?t=1101&start=0

Generic Parts List:

1) 2.4L DOHC engine from 95-02 Chrysler Products
2) 2.0L DOHC Intake manifold
3) 2.0L DOHC exhaust manifold (stock or aftermarket)
4) 2.0L DOHC Heater hose hard pipes
5) 2.0L DOHC PCM (Stock, Mopar, or AFX)
6) 2.0L DOHC Wiring harness
7) 2.0L Crankshaft pulley (Some 2.4's will require the use of a 2.0L UDP)
8) 2.4L Motor mount adapter
9) PT Cruiser water pump output neck
10) 2nd Gen Neon fuel pressure regulator (58psi) OR 24lb. injectors (one or the other)
11) PT Cruiser alternator brackets
12) DOHC Hood
13) 2.4L Stratus motor mount

here are some pics of the actual car itself.

here are a few questions i have though.

1.) what should i use exactly for my turbo header and the turbo itself?

i found this one any ideas if its any good?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-Turb ... 2eb73c01db

2.) what options do i have for a manual transmission?

3.) i ask this because isnt the stock trany prone to dropping the diff pin? thats what happend to the one that was in it already so is there a better 5 speed available that will bolt up with no troubles?

4.) i want to build the engine before it goes in. i already know about modern performance but some of their prices seem kind of high in my opinion. or is it really worth it?

5.) when i do the swap will i be able to hook my ac parts still in the car up to the diffrent engine? or will i have to lose ac?

think thats all the questions i have for now, any thing else you guys want to add feel free to chime in feel free. i dont know alot about this so speak up please

ok well i got a new passenger door, and a trunk today. the trunk has a factory wing is destroyed so i dont know if i want to just get a good wing and put on it or swithch the wing from my daily neon. but the wing is cracked underneath at the left mount as well.

That manifold will be great for the head I have. But you will need a modified SRT4 intake manifold to use my head. If you want a good manifold, buy a hahn manifold. It's a great unit. It fits the early block too. For tuning, buy an AEM F/IC and take it to someone who can tune it. Sure, you're dishing out some cash, but it'll be done on a dyno and done right.

f/ic, what is that? got a link to it at all? if i have a way to do the physical tuning i should be able to take it back to my college when done and do it there for free if i have a programmer or something.

found this modifier on i think it was andy's auto sport. but here is my car lowered 2" on 17" rims with 40 series tires and tinted out windows. not necessarily the wheels i plan on running just thought they looked good. this is pretty much the look im going for more or less though.

bobble strut, torque dampener, hydraulic movement decelerator. anyone got anymore names for it? it absorbs shock when shifting gears on manual trans neons. if your other car is an auto then thats why its not there, if its a stick then you need to put one there, then upgrade it to a modernperformance semi solid.

ok yeah my other one is a automatic one. so i should do a semi solid one then when i do this full build on this one then. another question. what are common problems with the stock 5 speed trannys? and what can i do to fix them or is there a better trans i can do? because i plan on putting down 300hp minimum with the build hopefully over 400 though.

so i added it all up and with my current list to do engine, trans, and suspension im already over $7,000 and thats not including buying the engine or any of the machine work. yeah.......... i probly should have put this in the project log instead of just in the motor swap. didnt really think about it though. anyone know of a way to move it?

The reason you use that F/IC is because it does not send the injector code. The one "for our cars" sends an injector circuit code. Meaning the PCM isn't reading injectors. However, the new updated 1913 instead of the 1910, fixed that problem.
