V 8 neon.........
well the coupe had a manual in it. which i might add is now trashed. its my sedan that had the auto. but im leaning more towards thinking the coupe is going to get a new wire harness along with a engine build, and another manual. instead of a v8. quick question though. if i do go that route should i not put the dohc pistons in it since the boost will be raising the compression? i dont know how much i want to run as of now though.

If you want to boost it, get some 2gn R/T pistons/rods, and toss them in. Then use a small turbo and tune it extremely well. It'll be fun. Auto or manual.08kgraves wrote:well the coupe had a manual in it. which i might add is now trashed. its my sedan that had the auto. but im leaning more towards thinking the coupe is going to get a new wire harness along with a engine build, and another manual. instead of a v8. quick question though. if i do go that route should i not put the dohc pistons in it since the boost will be raising the compression? i dont know how much i want to run as of now though.
since the wire harness was pretty messed up already also thought about doing a full srt 4 swap one day dash and all. maybe even build it up some before i put it in. that should be really really fun lol. and im asuming i need the transmission from it to? cus as of right now i dont have one for it. i guess it dropped the diff pin from what i have now been told. and my sedan has a dohc hood on it because i traded hoods with a buddy when he blew his up. also got the trunk lid with the factory wing on it.

The only real difference between the SRT blocks and the regular NA 2.4's is the piston/rods, oil pump, pan, pickup, water pump, and an oil port in the head. Plus if you go with a SRT block the crank trigger is different so you will need to either run a full srt harness and pcm, or wire in a Megasquirt.
The absolute cheapest route to go and the easiest is to take any pre-2001 N/A 2.4 block, swap in some takeout srt pistons and rods. use your existing harness (or get a junkyard on if it's really fubar'ed). This way you can have the car running right away. Then once it's running you can pop on the turbofold then wire in a FIC or use an RRFPR setup to add fuel for boost. Or even then wire in a MS box.
Here is the link to the 2.4 swap.

and a little more on parts between the N/a 2.4 and the SRT.

If you really want to do a real SRT swap, then find a SRT hit hard in the rear or side. Take the entire engine dropout and the harness, axles, knuckles and a bunch of little things I cannot remember right now and then set aside a few months to a year to do it.. It's not fun, just search the project logs on the big.org for people who done it before.
BTW Sohc's suck, between the small ports, noisy lash adjusters on the rocker arms, cylinder head chamber design that's prone to detonation, lack of real valve timing adjustability with only one cam, it's a poor choice to build up anymore. Simple mods to a Dohc will have bigger gains than the same one's done to a Sohc.

The competition package 23a on coupe or 25a on sedan (on 95 only 23J on coupe or 23K on sedan) You can find this number on the options tag if your car has one. They all had the 3.94 trans whether it was a dohc or sohc, 95 had an different ratio for 5 gear 97 and newer came with adjustable koni struts, 95 and 96 had Arvin struts. they also came with a faster ratio power steering rack and pinion, 16:1 instead of 18:1 ACRs had fog light bumpers and no fog lights and the rubbers bumpers down the side of the doors was unavailable.
My 97 had adjustable koni black struts, dohc with 3.94 trans, fog light holes in the front bumper with no fog lights, passenger rear view mirror delete, radio delete, it did have a rear defroster and a/c.
