sohc head on dohc block questions

Working on a DOHC or 2.4L swap, or maybe you have some other idea and have some questions? Feel free to ask them here...

sohc head on dohc block questions

ok so i have a sohc cam never liked dohc cams but heard you can get a little over 10:1 compression putting a sohc head on a dohc bottom end what all is needed to be done tried searching for stuff couldnt find anything wanted to know before i went and bought a dohc motor from the jy? thanks in advance for any help.

What increases compression is the pistons. What you need to do though, is to clearance them, because if not, they will hit the head. Jeff Ball did a write up on how to do it, but I don't know where it is.

i did read about the clearance issue i guess what im trying to ask is if im gonna have to do anything to the block or just bolt the head on and go. i know ya have to file the pistons down slightly but i was thinking about just using a thicker head gasket.

As far as I know, the only problems are the pistons. File them down, and you're good.

i just need to know before i go pull a dohc motor from a junk yard planning on doing that in a couple weeks just dont wanna have to plug and re drill any holes for the head to bolt right on

It bolts right on, but use the SOHC head gasket.

awsome i did think about just rebuilding mine with the dual cam pistons since i know the water pump and stuff is good on mine

yeah i dont really know exactly where i have to file the pistons on the valve side or on the sides that run parrallel to the wrist pins
