srt check list
srt check list
Ok I am making this thread because I need to figure out what all I need for my swap. I have a 95 1st gen and I'm doing a srt swap, but I'm keeping it simple for example I am going to put the 2.4L in but keep the neon tranny and use MS so I don't have to go threw the trouble of wiring the srt harness to make it so it would work ect... So far I have the block, crank shaft, internals and I have the intake manifold on the way. If possible can I get some help composing a complete list of parts I am going to need to buy so I would be able to have a complete motor. thanks.
poor is the new rich!
It will work fine with MS. MS has no problem reading the NGC crank trigger. If I ever want to boost another neon, that's exactly what I would do. SRT engine, neon trans, MS. You could have a really quick neon for about $1500.
You will need to buy the parts to do a 2.4 swap. Do you have a cylinder head, or is it just the SRT-4 block?

Lets say around $900 for a complete used SRT engine. Around $300 for MS stuff (used). The remaining money goes towards misc. stuff you will need (DP, intercooler, 2.4 swap stuff, etc). Buying used stock parts saves a lot of money. You wouldn't have to do anything to the fuel system besides a Walbro pump.

Have the prices gone up? I remember a couple years ago seeing SRT engines for around $1000. I figured they would be cheaper now. Even still, you can turn an N/A 2.4 into an almost SRT engine for dirt cheap when compared to the price of building up a 2.0L.wickedgoodneon wrote:I wish i could find a used srt engine for $900.
I guess you can start your list with a complete cylinder head. You should probably get a head gasket set as well.srt-omar wrote:so lets get this check list started lol.
MS is for MegaSquirt, an engine management system on the cheap.
A 1st Gen 2.4 complete will run $75-200 out of a Pick-n-Pull.
You'd need the engine mount.
SRT Piston/Rods are $340 from Modern new.
Honing should run $10/cylinder, or $40. About the same as machining the head and deck flat just to be sure. A gasket kit won't be that much, and provided you start with a 97 or newer 2.4, you will have the mechanical tensioner system.
The SRT Turbo Assembly can be found used for around $175 normally.
That gives you a "new", reliable setup for as little as $870, possibly cheaper if you source used SRT Rods/Pistons (I've seen them for as little as $100/set, without a scratch on one.)
From there, your major costs will be the MS system, and your Intercooler and Piping. I got a stock SRT Downpipe coming for $40 shipped. The MS will allow you to tune the stocker to around 250-260 hp. Change to a 3-bar map, and you can get close to maxxed Stage 2 levels, near 300 whp.
Cost if patient - less than $1500, as mentioned.

We're all crazy, it's just a matter of degree.
