2.0 DOHC - SOHC 2.0 Answer's
2.0 DOHC - SOHC 2.0 Answer's
The 95 - 2002 2.4 DOHC head's ARE THE SAME as a 95 - 2002 2.0 DOHC Head
In 2000+ they Stopped making the DOHC 2.0 but still make 2.4 DOHC
A 95 - 99 2.0 SOHC Block and 95 - 99 2.0 DOHC Block ARE Clost to the same.
95 - 99 2.0 SOHC Piston's and 95 - 99 DOHC Piston's ARE Different
95 - 99 2.0 SOHC Crank and 95 - 99 DOHC Crank ARE THE SAME
95 - 99 2.0 DOHC STOCK Cam Gear and 2.4 DOHC STOCK Cam Gear's ARE THE SAME (just flip them over) AfterMarket Gear's usually are DIff.
95 - 99 2.0 SOHC CAM and 95 - 99 2.0 DOHC Cam ARE NOT THE SAME
95 - 99 2.0 DOHC CAM and 95 - 2002 2.4 DOHC CAM ARE NOT THE SAME, BUT WILL WORK with little modifaction. To get 2.4 cam's running in your 2.0 you will need to turn the MAGNET 180 degree's on the cam <<<Read that twice! Install the cam like it should be! Turn ONLY the magnet on the end of the cam 180 Degree's... If you are using a 95 - 99 2.0 DOHC CAM on a 2.4 DOHC Engine then you need to do the same thing! TURN ONLY THE MAGNET!!!!!!
If you have a 2003+ DOHC of ANY kind it will not bolt on and work WITHOUT modification to a 95 - 2002 Block
(In 2003 - 2006 They changed a few thing's on this head, One of them being The oil port on the back of the head, It's Bigger then the 95 - 2002 Model's, You can weld in a chunk of Aluminum and redrill the hole to make it fit on a 95 - 99 Block)
Will my 95-2002 2.0 DOHC head fit on my 95-99 SOHC Block
YES it will bolt right on. You will need a few thing's
(This list is in progress)
95-2002 DOHC 2.0 Head
95-2002 2.0 OR 2.4 STOCK DOHC Cam gear's
95-99 2.0 DOHC Exhaust Manifold for a neon
95-99 DOHC Timing Belt
95-99 DOHC Valve Cover
95-99 DOHC Spark Plug Wire's
Will my 2.4 Head fit on my 2.0 block - Read everthing AGAIN
Will my 95-99 SOHC head fit on my DOHC Block? YES
It's late... i will finish this tomar... any one wanna add stuff to this thread i will update mine with the new info.... i hate reading 16page's for one thing[/u]

ok just from what i know, head changed in 01+ i thought/think. changes made to dohc were rectangular exhaust ports, 3 rings on valves/keepers, not all cooling ports match, pcv systems changed slightly, not all bolts align. but im also sure that all valve covers and heads can be slightly modded to work. i have no imput on sogc version. 95 blocks ARE different from 96-99 and even the 99's are slightly different. in 95 pcv was built into block, latter versions were in the valve cover. also main bearing keys changed from right rear to right front in 96. pistons are SOHC: 9.8 DOHC: 9.6. in 99, head bolt holes were drilled deeper, head gasket changed to a thicker gasket mls in, dont quote me, 97. 95 sohc cam is a higher gring, people complained of rough idle when ac was turned on, so sohc's were a more mild grind in 96+. cam magnet for the cam swap is actually retarded for 2.4-2.0 and advanced for 2.0-2.4 by 90 degree, not 180. the pt cruisers also had better rockers and lifters. the list for the swap should also include dohc wiring harness, pcm, timing cover and im not sure if the tensioner is different, but im guessing it is. i think thats it. so if you wanted a killer oem sohc, use the cam from a 95, and dohc, use a stratus block, sohc pistons, pt cruiser valvetrain, and 2.0 cams right.

MLS gasket was introduced mid way through 98 production as my 98 DOHC had it and was made June 98. My friend has a 98 made in March 98, did not have an MLS gasket. Difference of serial number 513XXX to my car 701323.
Everything else was pretty dead on. OP was pretty shotty with precision.
And PT retainers, rockers and lifters were stronger indeed! Really good upgrade for anyone making a built head.
99 the blocks were bored deeper on head bolt seven. Rear of cyl 4. Can also be corrected by removing a few threads on new head bolts so the gasket seals properly and does not bottom out in block.

2.0 DOHC - SOHC 2.0 Answer's
hate to post on an old topic but i ran across it. srry. not sure about this but didnt mitsubishi still use the chrysler 2.0 dohc with the head backwards like in the 95-99 eclipse in the galant in or after 2000. asking bc i worked on a galant in a shop the other day that had the the 2.0 dohc chrysler engine with the head flipped but i wasnt sure if it had been swapped in or if it was from the factory. im pretty sure they used a 2.4 with a sohc head as a motor option as well.
-97 dohc swapped 5 spd base model
The SOHC head never changed from 95-05. The SOHC block itself was the same 95-02. The NGC thing started in 2003-05, but the head design never changed.
The eclipse head design is backwards of our DOHC, yes. The block is the same as the DOHC block from a neon. The transmission is a 3.94/.81 as in the neons, but it has a hydraulc clutch bell housing on it, and the shift selector is slightly different. If you swap over the neon parts, it will work fine.
