Swapping in the 95-99 2.4, answer's for your build

Post by relenger » Sat Apr 04, 2009 10:40 pm

N/A Stand's for Natural Aspired - Meaning no turbo

Will SRT-4 Pistons fit in my N/A 2.4?
YES! Stock srt-4 pistons fit in a n/a 2.4 your block must have a good STOCK bore. The rods and pistons WILL fit in a N/A 2.4. The pistons from a srt-4 will drop compression to 8.1.1. The year of the block does not matter

Will the rod barrings work out of a SRT-4?
If your Crank is stock then you may use the stock barrings out of an SRT-4. The rods on a srt-4 have hole by the top of them for oil to come out of. srt-4 barrings also have this hole. N/A 2.4's do not! I would recomend using the srt-4 barring's if you are using srt-4 rods.. Though you do not have to use srt-4 barring's. The crank out of your N/A 2.4 will work fine with these rods.

Will the SRT-4 Crank work on my N/A 2.4?
The SRT-4 crank wont work on a 95-99 N/A 2.4 because of the Trigger wheel.

Will my 2.0 Crank work in a 2.4
Your 2.0 crank wont work on a 2.4.

How much can i get SRT-4 rods and pistons For?
Srt-4 rods and piston with rings will run around 100 a piece Depending on were you get them! The rod's and piston's are normally sold together. I would recomend getting ahold of some of the vender's on this site and SRTforums to get a good deal on rod's and piston's. These rods and pistons will also hold some serious HP right around 450-500Crank Hp
Image
On the top is a stock N/A rod and on the bottom is a srt-4 rod
the srt-4 rod is also made from C-70 forged steel rather than the powdered-metal construction of the NA rods

Can i use SRT-4 rods with aftermarket piston?
Aftermarket pistons will fit a srt-4 rod.
so if your N/A needs bored buy aftermarket pistons to go with your srt-4 rods.

Can i use SRT-4 rod's and put higher comp pistons on them?
YES!!! Srt-4 rod's will go with any compression piston.

will a SRT-4 oil pump, Oil Pan, Pickuptube, Tensioner work with my N/A 2.4?
These to will work on your N/A 2.4 but they will need to be bought together. If you go this route you Must buy the pick up tube, tensioner,
oil pan, Oilpan Gasket. Also to make installation easy buy a srt-4 water-Pump.
You can get the GT Cruiser or the SRT-4 stuff. It will all work. The SRT-4 gasket comes with tabs like a crank scraper but does not effect the crank were the balance shafts are.
The oil pump out of the SRT-4 pumps 15cc of oil instead of 12cc.
It works better for a turbo app then the N/a 2.4 pump. Also i noticed that the srt-4 water pump look's like a better design then the N/A 2.4...
Image

will a SRT-4 Turbo or exhaust work on my 1st gen?
IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU HAVE A 2.0 or 2.4SWAP.. YES The turbo bolts right up!
Any SRT-4 downpipe will work. you can use the SRT-4 exhaust with some mod's. This is a easy task...... you can also make your own.

What timing belt do i used on my 2.4 N/A?
When choosing a timing belt, it wont matter which one you choose as long as it's from a 2.4.. if you added all the srt-4 stuff it's still the same belt as the N/A belt.... SRT-4 Timing belt and N/A timing belt are the same!

can i use a SRT-4 Head on a 2001 and older block?
If your block is a 2001 and older you can use any head from 1995 - 2001
If your block is a 2002 and newer you need a 2002 - 2005 head
In the year 2002 they changed one oil port in the rear of the head so it will no longer bold on to a older block. How ever you can mod a 2002+newer head to work with a older style block!

will a SRT-4 headgasket fit a regular N/a 2.4?
The headgasket off an srt-4 will fit anything from 2002 and up.
it will not fit a 1995 - 2001 head do to the oil port change.
Use the gasket YEAR that goes with the block year

will a 95-99 2.0 DOHC Head fit my N/a 2.4?
YES this head will fit your 1995 - 2001 2.4 block... If Your block is a 2002 or newer it will not work..

Will my DOHC 2.0 cam gears work on my N/A 2.4
Stock 2.0 cam gears can be flipped over and they will work on your 2.4
to make After-market 2.0 cam gears work you will need to buy a spacer from (your gonna have to search for the person who make's these)

will 1995 - 2001 2.0 cam's work in my 1995 - 2001 2.4?
The magnets on srt-4 cams are in the same spot as a 2.0 cam... So for either of these cam's to work you must rotate the cam magnet 90 degrese clock wise...

SRT-4 Valve cover
It will fit with some small mods. there is a hole that don't line up if you got a 95-99 head. it will need to be plugged because dirt could get in your valve-train. Read about it here>>> http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=

Will my 95-99 neon tranny bolt up to my 2.4?
YES an 95-99 tranny (atx or mtx) will bolt up to your 2.4 some brackets dont fit but it holds just fine

Will my 95-99 PCM work on my 2.4
Yes but you will need to rewire a few things. this is vary easy to do

I'm curious to the difference in running a 2.0 DOHC head compared to the stratus 2.4 DOHC head....

both from 98s. I didn't realize the heads were the same....well...would I be better off running the 2.0 cams or the stratus 2.4 cams? I'm running the 2.4 with srt internals and a hahn 16g kit...

2.4 cams are a bit too mild and wouldnt make great power. im even thinking of changing my srt cams i have now for my crane cams.
It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom!
