1gn SOHC 2.0L to 2,4L chrysler voyager, is it possible?

Well... as the topic says.. I want to do this swap but I also want to know if it is possible.. and if it is, what to look out for, and is it just as easy as an srt4 swap or is this completley different?

does the transmission also fits on the Neon, or can I use my own?

ThNX! :)

Voyager 2.4 should be the same motor commonly used for 2.4L swaps in the states.

It is easier than an SRT-4 swap.

You will probably want to use the Neon transmission. Does your donor Voyager have a manual trans? We haven't had a manual trans Chrysler minivan available in the states for 15 years, so I am unsure what manual tranny is used in them over there. If it's an NVG T-350 like what is used in the Neon and PT Cruiser, you may want to check the numbers on both trannys to see which one will work best for you. Some of the later T-350s were stronger and had 2nd and 3rd gears closer together, go for one of those if you can.

Here is the info on various T-350 transmissions:
http://www.neons.org/forumdodge/trans.htm

Ignore the T-850 stuff, that is the SRT-4 tranny which will not work in a 1st gen.

A lot of good info here:

SOHC harness is easy enough to modify to work with the swap.

Yup, last 2.4 swap I did used a SOHC harness.

Extend the coolant temp sensor wires. You may have to change the TPS connector, depending on what DOHC sensor you get. All the other harness modifications will be the same as if you were using a DOHC harness.

Exactly, it's hardly different. And you could also put the engine in, and start hooking up the harness and figure out what needs to be changed, no? Guess everyone wants their hand held when doing custom stuff in a car nowadays.

 no I just don't want to go hooking up a dohc pcm in my sohc and screwing something up. all these sensors are so damn expensive I'd prefer to screw up as few as possible :banghead: .

I've checked and double checked the schematics but I figured someone has probably done it so they may drop some knowledge if I asked.

thnx ppl this info is very important to me considering you did 2,4L swaps yourself.
what would I need to go up to about 200 hp without a non turbo setup??
I know it's kinda hard to say but I want to make a sick ass Neon in about 6/ 12 months time!! :D so I really want to know what types of mods I should place on the DOHC 2,4L.
again, thnx for all the info! :)

You'll need some more compression and like Crane 22's to get there. And a good exhaust, more fuel, preferably a standalone, etc. Not many people have hit 200 whp, and I know Jeff didn't do it his first try...

sorry to keep hijacking but what is the diffrence between 96 and the later years. I have a 96 sohc, would I be better swapping a newer dohc pcm in if I have to mess with wires anyways?

My 2.4 came from a caravan which is the same thing as a voyager. Its the same as getting it from a stratus or avenger. Although I did have an issue with the front motor mount bracket. I had to cut into it a lil bit to get it to fit.

Yeah everyone has to cut the front bracket so it clears the oil pan. Don't think Avengers had 2.4's either btw. Just 420a or 2.5L v6.
