you have the right not to use a hoist if it is unsafe, for insurance purposes our hoists need to be inspected and serviced every year. You could fight being fired over that instance if you can prove that the hoist was junk

a properly balanced vehicle will not fall off a hoist, I've seen the arm pivots bannana peel, but if the arms came out then it is IMO operator failure...but I cannot see me ever using a hoist that looks like that. 15 years of putting cars,1/2 tons and bigger inthe air..never yet to have an experienc...
